OVERVIEW

Apple CarPlay² features Siri² voice control to operate the navigation/maps, hands free phone and SMS.

Siri² can be accessed by either using the voice recognition button on the steering wheel or holding the home screen button.

Android Auto™¹

Android Auto™¹ automatically brings you useful information and organises it into simple cards that appear when they’re needed.

The home screen shows you relevant information like time to destination, reminders, the current song and new messages.


You can use Google¹ voice control or the touch screen to operate Android Auto™¹ apps.

Maps

Maps give you turn-by-turn directions, traffic conditions, and the estimated travel time. Maps can also use the addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendar events to help you get to where you need to be.

Let Google Maps™ lead you to your destination. Voice-guided navigation, live traffic information and lane guidance will get you there safely. Integration with Google Calendar means you start your journey with minimal fuss and arrive at your destination sooner.

Smartphone Link Display Audio

  • How do I adjust the volume of the navigation guide?

    You can adjust the volume using the Smartphone Link Display Audio setting menu. While you are listening to the voice guidance system, you can press volume button to adjust the volume. 

  • Which cable should I use to connect my smartphone to Smartphone Link Display Audio?

    Please use a genuine original USB cable for your smartphone.

  • If two smartphones are connected, what will happen?

    If you connect two smartphones, the first one connected activates as Android Auto1 (if it’s an Android™ phone) or CarPlay2 (if it’s an iPhone). If the second device is an iPhone, it activates as an iPod with battery charge. If the second device is an Android phone, it may activate the USB device or just the battery charge.

  • Is it possible to watch live broadcast TV on Smartphone Link Display Audio?

    Smartphone Link Display Audio does not have a TV tuner, but has an HDML connector. You can watch TV if you have an AV device with TV function and an HDMI connector. However, you cannot watch TV while driving.

  • Can Smartphone Link Display Audio take control of dashboard like controlling air conditioner?

    No.

  • If I do not have a smart phone, what application can I use?

    You can use the following functions:
    Analog Radio, Digital Radio (specific region only), Satellite Radio (specific region only), Play music stored in a USB device, iPod, HDMI, AUX (specific region only), Bluetooth® Audio, Hands free phone.

  • Can I use navigation when I am outside of mobile phone coverage area?

    Navigation may not continue to function outside of your coverage area. When the mobile signal is lost, map data is not downloaded.  Some map data is buffered in the smartphone. 
    So as long as buffered map data is available you may continue using navigation.

  • My phone cable isn’t working.

    We recommend you use the genuine original equipment bought with your phone. Not all USB cables will be compatible with Smartphone Link Display Audio.

  • Is the Music library in Smartphone Link Display Audio synchronized to the library in my smartphone?

    Smartphone Link Display Audio does not keep the data from the smartphone. Therefore you cannot synchronize Smartphone Link Display Audio with smartphone.

  • Does Smartphone Link Display Audio have a CD drive? Can I listen to music from a CD?

    As there is no CD drive in Smartphone Link Display Audio, you cannot play a CD. Instead, you can play music stored in your smartphone or stream music. You can also play music using an iPod, USB memory or Bluetooth® device. 

  • Does Smartphone Link Display Audio support both Android Auto¹ and CarPlay²?

    Yes.

Android Auto™¹

  • My Android phone is connected to Smartphone Link Display Audio, but won’t activate. What should I do?

    Please try the following.

    1. Check the screen of the connected smartphone. If you see any errors on it, clear it.
    2. Reconnect USB cable.
    3. Reboot smartphone.
    4. Reboot Smartphone Link Display Audio.
    5. Check if the time of Smartphone Link Display Audio and smartphone match.
    6. Remove the check mark 'Only connect to known cars' in Android AutoTM App.
  • Is it possible to use Android Auto¹ with a wireless connection such as Bluetooth®?

    Only USB connection is possible with Smartphone Link Display Audio at this point. 

  • Can tablets, like an iPad, plug into the Smartphone Link Display Audio?

    Tablets cannot be used with Android Auto1.

  • Does Smartphone Link Display Audio include a navigation feature?

    Smartphone Link Display Audio is not equipped with a navigation system, but you can navigate with Android Auto1 by connecting your smartphone.

  • What are the differences between Bluetooth® connection and Android Auto¹?

    When your smartphone is connected to Smartphone Link Display Audio, you can use a navigation app running on Android Auto1. In addition, you can control the app by voice, enabling you to focus on driving using Android Auto1.

  • I am considering a new car with Smartphone Link Display Audio, but my country does not support Android Auto¹. If I purchase a new car with Smartphone Link Display Audio and register a Google account in a supported country will it work?

    You can only use Android Auto1 in a country where it is supported. 

  • I tapped the Android Auto¹/app icon on Smartphone Link Display Audio but it did not run. Why?

    Please check to see if an error message is displayed on the smartphone screen. If so, please reset and try again.

  • What should I do if the voice command button on the steering wheel does not work?

    Try pressing and holding the voice control button on the steering wheel until you hear a beeping sound from the system which should start voice recognition on Android Auto1. If the button is pressed again, the on-board Mitsubishi voice control feature will be activated. If it does not work, please contact your dealership. 

  • Will Smartphone Link Display Audio drain my phone battery?

    When you connect your phone to Android Auto1, its battery receives power through your Smartphone Link Display Audio's USB port. If your phone requires more power than the USB connection gives it, you may notice some battery drain. This may be due to the active Bluetooth® connection.
    If your phone is losing battery when connected, consider upgrading your USB cable or checking out these tips (https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6090612) on managing your battery life and to learn how to close apps that are using a lot of power.

  • How do I reply to a text message?
    1. Press and hold the voice control button on the steering wheel until you hear a beeping sound from the system or select the microphone icon on Smartphone Link Display Audio display.
    2. Say “reply.” Your reply will automatically be for the last text you received.
    3. Say your reply.
    4. Android Auto1 will repeat your message and confirm that you’d like to send it. If you want to send the message say "send." If you want to cancel the message just say "cancel".
  • Can I use a third party navigation app?

    The navigation app for Android Auto1 is released by Google1. Currently, no third-party navigation apps are available for Android Auto1.

  • Can all apps in a smartphone work with Android Auto¹?

    Only apps that are compatible with Android Auto1 will work with Smartphone Link Display Audio.
    You can check Google PlayTM (http://g.co/androidauto) for compatible apps. 

  • Can I use apps that are not downloaded from Google Play?

    Only apps approved for use with Android Auto1 on Google Play1 can be used. 

  • Alphabet keyboard is available for typing, but can I change it to a local language?

    The keyboard language of Android Auto1 cannot be changed currently. Only English is available.
    From Android Auto1 V1.2, the keyboard language can be changed using the Android Auto1 app.

  • How can I read messages marked as already-read?

    Already-read messages are not read out.

  • When I receive a new message, a notification appears only for a few seconds on Smartphone Link Display Audio. Is it possible to keep showing a notification until I read it?

    Currently the function is unsupported.
    You can find the unread messages in the home screen.

  • Can I zoom in/out the map by pinching like a smartphone?

    Pinch-in and pinch-out operation is not available. Please use the +/- buttons to adjust the scale.

  • How do I change the distance unit from 'mile' to 'km'?

    You can change it by going to Google Maps™ > Settings > Distance units.

  • How can I view navigation map in 3D?

    There is no 3D building view function on Android Auto1.

  • How can I set the destination by tapping a Point of Interest (POI) showing on the map?

    You can set a destination by touching POI for Android Auto1.

  • How can I set waypoints?

    Waypoints cannot be set currently.
    Please set it as a destination.

  • How do I set a route avoiding expressways, toll roads, or ferries?

    You can change the route settings by touching the option button before starting the route guide for Android Auto1.

  • How can I display or hide a traffic condition?

    Touch the settings button in the left of the search bar to show or hide traffic information on a window.

  • How can I set a route to avoid a traffic jam?

    Google MapsTM automatically takes traffic conditions into account when planning your route.
    When alternative routes are available, you can select preferred route on the map.

  • How can I check which is the next intersections to turn at?

    You can check by tapping the right arrow on the upper green bar.

  • How can I view the entire route?

    Tap a divergent arrow mark.

  • How can I cancel navigation?

    Tap "X".

  • How can I delete POIs which I searched in the past?

    You cannot delete them on Smartphone Link Display Audio screen. Instead, delete them from the apps (map) settings of your smartphone.
    Android: Open Maps history through settings and tap X for each to delete. (It is not possible to clear all at once)

Apple CarPlay²

  • My iPhone is connected to Smartphone Link Display Audio, but it does not activate. What should I do?

    Please try the following.

    1. Check the screen of connected smartphone. If you see any errors on it, clear them.
    2. Reconnect USB cable.
    3. Reboot smartphone.
    4. Reboot Smartphone Link Display Audio.
    5. Check if Siri2 is turned ON.
    6. Make sure you are running the latest version of iOS, or at least iOS 8.
    7. Ensure you are in a supported country.
    8. Make sure you are using an Apple approved USB to lightning cable.
  • Is it possible to use CarPlay² by wireless connection such as Bluetooth®?

    You can only use a USB connection with Smartphone Link Display Audio at this point. 

  • Can tablets, like an iPad, plug into Smartphone Link Display Audio?

    Tablets cannot be used with CarPlay2.

  • Does Smartphone Link Display Audio include a navigation feature?

    You can only connect to Smartphone Link Display Audio using a USB connection even if your iPhone is iOS9 or higher.

  • I tapped the CarPlay² app icon on Smartphone Link Display Audio but it did not run. Why?

    Please check if an error message is displayed on the smartphone screen. If so, please reset and try again.

  • What should I do if the voice command button on the steering wheel does not work?

    Try pressing and holding the voice control button on the steering wheel until you hear beeping sound from the system. If the button is pressed again, the on-board Mitsubishi voice control feature will be activated. If it does not work, please contact your dealership. 

  • Will Smartphone Link Display Audio drain my phone battery?

    When you connect your phone to run CarPlay2, your battery receives power through your car’s Lightning Cable connection. 
    CarPlay2 does not require a BluetoothR connection.

  • How do I dial a number, call a contact or view other call options?

    Select the Phone icon on the home display.
    CarPlay2 will prompt you to use Siri2 voice recognition.
    If you would like to continue using the display instead press the Show Contacts button on the top right hand corner or press the home button to cancel Siri.
    Here you will have the option to view your Favourites, Recents, Contacts, Keypad and Voicemail as you can on your phone.
    Select your menu and then the contact or phone number that you would like to call.

  • How do I reply to a text message?
    1. After reading out a received text message, Siri2 will ask if you would like to reply. You can reply by selecting the reply button or responding to Siri by saying “Yes”.
    2. Siri will ask you to say your message.
    3. Siri will repeat your message and confirm that you’d like to send it. If you want to send the message, select or say “send”. If you want to cancel the message select or say "cancel".
  • Can I use a third party navigation app?

    No third-party navigation apps are available for CarPlay2 at this time.

  • Can all apps in my smartphone work with CarPlay²?

    Only apps that are compatible with CarPlay2 will work with Smartphone Link Display Audio. 

  • Can I use apps which are not downloaded from Apple Store?

    You can only use approved apps for CarPlay2 downloaded from the Apple Store.

    The Keyboard language of CarPlay2 cannot be changed.

  • How can I change the distance unit from 'mile' to 'km'?

    You can change it from the settings menu on your iPhone. 
    iPhone: Tap Settings > Map > DISTANCE "In Miles" or "In Kilometers".

  • How do I view the navigation map in 3D?

    The 3D building view for the navigation map can be shown on CarPlay2 by touching the '3D' button.

  • How can I set waypoints?

    Waypoints cannot be set currently.
    Please set it as a destination.

  • Does the map show traffic conditions in real-time?

    CarPlay2 supports traffic information by areas. Please see the Apple2 website for more detail.

  • How can I set a route to avoid traffic jams?

    The re-route function to avoid traffic jams is available with iOS9 or higher in supported countries.

  • How do I view the entire route?

    Tap 'overview' indication.

  • How can I cancel navigation?

    Tap "END". 

  • How can I delete POIs which I searched in the past?

    You cannot delete them on Smartphone Link Display Audio screen, however you can delete them from the apps (map) settings of smartphone.
    iPhone: Tap search text box > Favorites > Recents > Clear

  • How can I update the map data for navigation?

  • I tried to set a destination using Siri voice commands on Maps but Siri responds “Please try again later”. What is wrong?

    You may be in a weak or no signal strength area. Please move to a strong signal strength area to use Siri.

  • I tried to set a destination on Maps using manual keyboard entry. The system would accept the new destination, however it cannot find directions / route guidance to the new destination. What is wrong?

    You may be in a weak or no signal strength area. Please move to strong signal strength area to use start route calculation.

  • What happens if I start listening to streaming music in a strong signal strength area and drive into a low signal strength area.

    There is no loss of music function as long as you continue to listen to the same track. However changing tracks requires a strong signal strength.
