The reversing camera supplements the driver's rear field of view by automatically appearing on screen when reverse gear is engaged. The MMCS option available on VRX will display the rear camera’s view on the MMCS screen. On LX and VRX models (and ES Safety Pack Option), the rear view will appear on the display audio system screen. Combined with reverse parking sensors that alert you when objects get a little close, parking your Lancer is easy.

To provide ultimate protection in the event of a collision, Lancer comes standard with seven SRS airbags, including side and curtain airbags. Lancer also comes equipped with a driver’s knee airbag as standard across all models. In some head-on accidents, it stabilises the driver’s legs and lower body. This allows the other airbags to do their job of protecting the upper body even more effectively.

The RISE body system combines an energy absorbing front section with a strong, rigid occupant cell to provide outstanding protection in the event of an accident. Crushable zones teamed with a straight frame chassis and octagonal section frames are designed to absorb and dissipate energy from the passenger compartment.

Lancer has been awarded a 5-Star rating by the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), the highest rating possible. ANCAP, Australia’s leading automotive safety authority is supported by Australian and New Zealand automobile clubs, the state government road and transport authorities of NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, Western Australia, the New Zealand Government, the Victorian TAC, NRMA Insurance and the FIA foundation.

Lancer is equipped with ABS, which allows the driver to maintain steering control of the vehicle, letting the driver manoeuvre around objects under heavy braking conditions.

ATC helps the Lancer maintain traction on the most slippery or rugged of surfaces. It automatically controls the engine’s output – so driving wheels are prevented from spinning. Sensing loss of traction in independent wheels, ATC applies braking force to that particular wheel and sends extra power and torque to other wheels with traction to keep the vehicle moving and in control.

ASC maintains stability and control when cornering by automatically recognising under-steer and over-steer. It applies brakes to the appropriate wheels to keep you online through corners.
