Q&A with The Veronicas
March 10, 2020
It is the start of a new decade – 2020! You have been in the industry a long time and grown so much in front of the public’s eyes. What do you hope to achieve in the next decade both personally and professionally?
The spirit of exploration and creativity stays the same. We would say being able to start our own families, and create from a new perspective in love, through that will be truly mind blowing.
If you could hit the road with any band or solo artist, who would it be and where would you take them?
There are so many artists we are fans of that would be incredible to tour with, but we think touring with our mates Cub Sport would be epic. We have all started a hiking club, so we would drive around Australia, hiking in some wild remote locations in-between shows. They are nature spirits like us.
How about gigs? Do you still go? Who do you see?
Yeah we do. We love anyone who is passionate and spontaneous. But honestly, as we are getting older we are looking for inspiration in people taking the biggest risks. Anything that moves you. Russell Brand's new show, Hamilton The Musical, Lana Del Rey, Greta Thunberg. Anything that is real and passionate.
How do you choose what to wear on stage? You guys are always dressed up in the most unique and expressive outfits.
We really follow our intuition and mood for each show. We started in theatre young, so we have always felt it important to express ourselves through costuming. Anything that makes us feel powerful, and beautiful inside and out.
What’s the most important piece of advice you’d give to those trying to make it in the music industry?
Do it for the love of music. Write write write, and write some more. The key to music, is your songwriting. And meet and collaborate with people that inspire you in all forms of art, inspire and create fun things with each other. And share it as much as possible. TAKE RISKS.
The public got the opportunity to really get to know you both and your relationship as twins and as The Veronicas – what was it like watching the series back?
We just had fun. Only we know what the real moments were, and what they weren't. To us it’s all comedy.
You guys are Mitsubishi’s newest ambassadors – what is your favourite thing about your new ASX and have you been able to take it anywhere exciting yet?
We love that it has the space and versatility of an SUV, but has the swift motion of a smaller car. We take it down to a lot of different hikes from the Sunshine Coast to Byron Bay. We also take it to the airport for all our domestic flying. It's really important we have the flexibility and comfort in a car for everything from hikes, to valeting at different events, hotels and airports. AND it’s the Pantone colour for 2020 - we call it Anti Anxiety Blue.
What is your favourite song to play while you guys are in the ASX? We have a few people in the office who enjoy turning up ‘Untouched!’….
Hahaha. We actually test all the new mixes for our album in the ASX!! That bass gets heavy OKAY!!
