Whether you’re into horse racing or not, the Birdsville Races should be on your bucket list. Run continuously on 2-3 September since 1882, thousands of people flock to the tiny Outback town of Birdsville for the two-day racing carnival. But with Birdsville situated on the edge of the Simpson Desert and surrounded by unsealed dirt roads getting there requires plenty of preparation and a decent 4x4.
Practical Motoring asked 4x4-driving newbie, Hannah Stratham, to take the wheel of a brand-new Mitsubishi Triton and pilot it the 1600km from Brisbane to Birdsville. Here’s her story of the adventure.
